Event information

Here is some further information about what to expect on the day:

The event will start at 6pm in the Salmon Theatre in the Hamilton Building. We have the hall booked from 5.30 so feel free to come early if you like.

Once the event starts, each speaker will be invited to introduce themselves and speak for 5-10 minutes (this is a rough guideline, if you would prefer to speak for slightly shorter/ longer that is fine). During this time you can talk about any relevant topic under the subject of the event, for example:

Your experience being LGBTQ+ in your field

The subject of LGBTQ people in STEM in general

What you hope will change in the field telling us about your research

Outlining your career so far and how being LGBTQ+ has influenced your experience

A combination of the above or something else under the topic.

If you would like to use slides to aid this talk, you can send them to me before 4 on Tuesday and I will ensure they are displayed on the screen during your talk.

After this, the event will move to a panel discussion format.

Panel Questions

These are the question prompts that we will use during this discussion: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18m9azgkLYDZPoBqlVKjPQo_GjFRiytJ4djf4QZWSuN8/edit?usp=drivesdk

Once the panel portion of the event is concluded, the discussion will be opened to the floor and members of the audience can ask questions as well as contributing to the discussion themselves.

Safe Space Policy

We have a safe space policy in place at every event. Only share what you are comfortable with, and if you would prefer to talk about the topic generally rather than talk about your personal experience, that is fine. If you do not want to be included in any photos at the event or want what you share at the event remain confidential, please let us know and we will ensure this is respected at the event.

If you have any questions about the event, or would like to sign up, respond to this email. Additionally, feel free to forward this if you know anyone who would be interested in speaking or attending.
